Why People Are Contributing

When I saw my father-in-law slipping away at the late stage of Dementia, my heart ached. My mother-in-law became the sole caretaker and was often exhausted. But she was strong. Later, my father-in-law passed away.  I wrote a script derived from their story which became a semi-finalist of the Blue Cat screenwriting competition.

The film is about an Asian American family where the wife takes care of a frail husband in the late stage of Dementia and relives moments of their marriage. When your loved one suffers from Dementia, your entire world becomes "Fragmented."

The film was directed by Tina Quach, whose short films have been exhibited in multiple film festivals, including the New York Asian American International Film Festival. Norbert Shieh, the Director of Photography, is a recent 2022 Center of Asian American Media Fellow. Leading Actors Ge Geng and Paul Wong have acted extensively across film and stage.

The film was shot in Malibu, CA, on June 17th and 18th, 2023.  Post-production was finished on October 16th, 2023.  It is currently in the film festival circuit.

Stories about Dementia are seldom told in the Asian American community; therefore, we hope the film will impact that community.  We are collaborating with Alzheimer's L.A. and are going to reach the communities of Monterey Park, Alhambra, and San Gabriel for screenings and panel discussions in November 2024 during Alzheimer's Awareness Month.

A private donor funded us with $20,000.  Since our fundraising campaign, we have raised $2,300, leaving around $12,000 yet to be raised to cover marketing and PR, film festival submissions, screening room rentals, refreshments for attendees, and the money borrowed for post-production.

With your support, we can widen the impact on the Asian American community and beyond with a film that is dedicated to those affected by dementia and their families, and that brings hope to the caretakers who often feel lonely during this journey. No amount is too small, and your generosity and compassion mean the world to us.

Your donation is 100% tax deductible.  It will go through From the Heart Production to a designated fund for our project. From the Heart Production is a 501 c (3) top-rated nonprofit that funds films that are unique and make a contribution to society, compelling stories with heartfelt characters.
